Paying for professional development in one lump sum can place considerable pressure on your other financial obligations. You may qualify for a Financial Modeling Academy scholarship route and recognise the value of earning the Advanced Financial Modeler designation, yet still need a more manageable way to pay for the training.

Through its partnership with dbrownconsulting, Edubanc allows eligible FMA applicants to finance their tuition and repay over an agreed period. During the webinar Become an Advanced Financial Modeler Without Breaking the Bank, Edubanc representatives explained how the financing works, the eligibility requirements, the associated costs, and the questions applicants should consider before accepting an offer.

What Does Edubanc Financing Cover?

Edubanc can finance up to 100% of the approved tuition for eligible FMA applicants, subject to verification, affordability checks, and final approval. Once the application has been approved and the pre-disbursement requirements completed, Edubanc pays the tuition directly to dbrownconsulting. The funds are not transferred into the applicant’s personal account.

Applying for the Financial Modeling Academy does not guarantee financing. Edubanc must assess your income, documents, credit record, existing obligations, and ability to meet the proposed monthly repayment without creating excessive financial pressure.

Who Is Eligible to Apply?

You do not have to be a salaried employee to apply. Entrepreneurs, freelancers, and other applicants with consistent, verifiable income may also qualify. Edubanc reviews recent bank statements to estimate average income and determine whether the proposed instalment is affordable.

If you are a student without a consistent income source, the person who will be responsible for repayment should submit the financing application as your sponsor. The identity information, bank statements, and supporting documents should belong to the person accepting responsibility for the facility.

A suitable application should demonstrate:

  • Consistent and verifiable income
  • Responsible management of existing credit
  • Sufficient capacity to meet the proposed monthly instalment
  • Accurate identity and financial information
  • Genuine interest in enrolling in FMA

Edubanc generally assesses whether the proposed monthly repayment can be accommodated within the applicant’s available income. Additional income sources may also be considered when the applicant provides appropriate supporting evidence.

Which Documents Should You Prepare?

The application is completed online and requires basic identity and financial information. Applicants should prepare a valid means of identification, NIN, BVN, proof of residence, recent bank statements, tuition documentation, and evidence supporting any additional income declared in the application. Edubanc may review between six and twelve months of bank statements.

A complete and accurate application may receive an outcome within 24 hours. Missing, unclear, or inconsistent documents can extend the process to between 24 and 48 hours or longer. Incorrect information, including a wrong BVN or mismatched names, may delay an application that would otherwise have progressed quickly.

Why Should You Check Your Credit Record First?

Edubanc conducts a credit check to understand your borrowing and repayment history. Having another loan does not automatically disqualify you, provided you are servicing it responsibly and can still afford the proposed FMA repayment. Unpaid or poorly managed credit facilities may affect your application.

Prospective applicants were advised to request a credit check through their bank before applying. This can reveal unresolved indebtedness or inaccurate records that need to be corrected. For example, a previously repaid facility may still appear as outstanding if the lender has not updated the record properly.

What Will the Edubanc Financing Cost?

Edubanc calculates the financing using the approved FMA tuition as the principal amount. The applicable tuition depends on your FMA scholarship route and the agreed exchange rate at the time of processing. Once your application is approved, the offer letter will show the principal, total interest, insurance fee, monthly instalment, repayment dates, and total amount payable.

The terms explained during the webinar were:

  • Monthly interest: 3.5% of the financed amount for every month of the agreed repayment period.
  • Insurance fee: A one-time charge of 1.5% of the financed amount. This is paid once and is not repeated monthly.
  • Repayment period: Applicants can select a tenure of between one and six months, subject to Edubanc’s affordability assessment and approval.
  • First instalment: After accepting the offer letter, the applicant pays the first monthly instalment together with the one-time insurance fee.
  • Direct debit: The applicant must authorise a direct debit on the account into which their salary, business proceeds, or other verified income is paid. Edubanc will use this mandate to collect the remaining instalments according to the approved repayment schedule.

Choosing a longer repayment period spreads the tuition across more monthly instalments, so each instalment may be easier to manage. However, because Edubanc charges interest for every month of the agreed tenure, repaying over six months will result in a higher total interest cost than repaying over one or two months.

For example, if your approved tenure is six months, your offer letter will contain a schedule showing six monthly instalments. You will pay the first instalment and the one-time 1.5% insurance fee after accepting the offer. Once Edubanc confirms these payments and activates the direct-debit mandate, it will transfer the approved tuition directly to dbrownconsulting. The remaining five instalments will then be collected monthly in line with the repayment schedule.

These terms may change. Before accepting an offer, confirm the current tuition amount, monthly instalment, repayment dates, total interest, insurance charge, direct-debit account, and early-repayment terms stated in the offer letter.

Can You Repay Earlier Than Agreed?

An attendee asked whether someone approved for a six-month repayment period would still pay the full six-month interest after settling the facility within one or two months.

Edubanc confirmed that early repayment is permitted. The applicant would settle the outstanding principal and 50% of the remaining interest, rather than paying all the interest initially projected for the full tenure. The exact liquidation amount should be requested from Edubanc and confirmed before payment.

Is Financing Available for Postgraduate Programmes?

Edubanc stated that it also finances eligible postgraduate programmes, including MBA and DBA programmes, depending on the institution and the financing arrangements available. The FMA partnership was the specific focus of this webinar.

When Is an Applicant Considered Fully Financed?

The process is complete when Edubanc has disbursed the approved tuition to dbrownconsulting. The applicant receives a notification, while dbrownconsulting is informed so that enrolment can proceed.

Read the Offer Before You Accept

Edubanc financing can reduce the pressure of paying FMA tuition as one lump sum, but it remains a formal credit commitment. Read the complete offer letter and ensure that the monthly instalment fits comfortably alongside your existing obligations.

If your financial circumstances change after approval, contact Edubanc before missing a payment. Responsible repayment protects your credit record and helps keep education financing available to other applicants.

The next step is to identify the FMA scholarship route that applies to you, gather the required documents, check your credit record, and assess the proposed repayment against your actual monthly income and expenses.

Registration for the upcoming Financial Modeling Academy cohort closes on Friday, November 13, 2026. If you plan to use Edubanc financing, begin your application early enough to allow time for document verification, affordability assessment, approval, and tuition disbursement before the deadline.
